The impact of the coronavirus pandemic has shifted focus to the importance of having a health insurance coverage. As per a recent report by Justdial Consumer insights, there has been more than a 300% spike in demand for health policies post-covid. However, this is unlikely to make a dent in the overall penetration of health insurance in India. More than 60% of the population are still not covered through health insurance and as a result pay out of pocket for medical expenses. Additionally, there are still challenges around healthcare such as lack of accessibility, quality, and awareness. Insurtechs, and those specifically focused on health insurance and healthcare are trying to tackle these problems head-on.

What are the healthcare challenges faced by India?

How Insurtechs are solving healthcare problems?

Insurtechs are at the forefront of enabling high insurance penetration. A higher health insurance penetration will translate to a better managed healthcare ecosystem for a country like India. As these companies grow, a health care utopia may be possible and provide India with affordable and quality medical services.
