COVID-19 updates: 368 new cases, 3 deaths in Oregon

To provide our community with important public safety information, the Statesman Journal is making this daily update related to the coronavirus free to read.

We'll update this story throughout the day with the latest news about coronavirus and its effects in Oregon on Friday, April 1.

The Oregon Health Authority reported an additional 368 cases of COVID-19 on Friday, along with three deaths.

Marion County accounted for 22 cases, while Polk County's daily total was not listed.

No deaths were reported in either Marion or Polk counties.

Hospitals statewide are treating 109 patients with COVID-19, including 20 in intensive care unit beds. The state's adult ICU bed capacity is 84% and non-ICU bed capacity is 91%.

The Oregon Health Authority will no longer be publishing daily media releases about the changes in Oregon's coronavirus cases, hospitalizations or deaths as of next week.

The information will still be available on the OHA's website, data dashboards and social media platforms.

Friday's release was the last daily release, the agency said, but news releases will still be distributed when there is information that merits widespread distribution.

The daily media releases — which the Statesman Journal and many other news organizations used to help readers track the day-to-day changes of COVID-19 in Oregon — started after it became clear early in the pandemic how quickly the situation could evolve, OHA said.

The change is happening now due to cases and hospitalizations being at low levels and information about protecting oneself from the coronavirus being widely known.

Following similar logic, the Statesman Journal will cease publishing a daily coronavirus blog, and instead will track and report COVID-19 in the state through the various reports OHA will continue to publish weekly, semi-monthly and monthly.
