A Bensalem Township man arrested for allegedly taking items from vehicles has also been charged with trying to escape police custody, according to court papers.

Mallet Clark, 30, was arrested on June 13 for theft from motor vehicles in the Fallsington Woods neighborhood off Lower Morrisville Road. He was transported to Jefferson Bucks Hospital after a Taser was used on him by arresting officers, police said.

While at the hospital, Clark was determined to have an active warrant for theft out of Burlington County, New Jersey, police said.

Clark was at the emergency room with his hands cuffed in front of him to facilitate treatment, police said.

Around 2:30 p.m. on June 13, the officer detailed to secure Clark in a hospital room radioed that the 30-year-old man fled the room and was running, police said.

The officer was pursuing Clark as additional officers from Falls Township, Middletown Township, and Lower Makefield Township arrived, police said.

During the chase, the officer reported a Honda sedan appeared to be there to pick up Clark, police said.

Officers stopped the sedan in the parking lot of Jefferson Bucks Hospital and found Clark lying down inside. There were three other people – A Levittown woman, a Warwick Township man, and a Morrisville woman – in the sedan, police said.

Clark and the others were taken into custody, police said.

Hospital staff told officers the sedan was spotted in the parking lot and sped off toward Clark once he escaped.

Officers took Clark back into the hospital and sedation was ordered, police said.

As Clark was in the hospital and staff attempted to administer medication, Clark struck a hospital security supervisor in the chin. He was then secured to the bed and additional officers responded to prevent additional escape attempts or outbursts, police said.

Clark was reported to be in the hospital in an agitated and upset state. He was upset about being restrained and threatened to kill a nurse while yelling a racist slur, police said.

Clark was screaming so loud that it disrupted the entire floor, police said.

Clark kicked the end of the bed until the footboard broke, police said.

On numerous occasions, Clark would shift his hospital bed across the room and hit a “code” alarm, summoning nursing staff from across the hospital to the room, police said.

Refusing to use a bed pan, Clark defecated onto the floor and screamed a racial slur. He also asked to someone to “wipe his a**,” police said.

Clark refused further medical treatment and was taken to a district court for preliminary arraignment, police said.

Clark, in addition to facing the theft from vehicles charges, was charged recently with escape, terroristic threats to cause serious public inconvenience, simple assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, ethnic intimidation, and harassment. He is being held in the Bucks County Correctional Facility unable to post bail.
